Igor Longato

Igor Longato was born into a family of musicians. He studied piano, organ, conducting and composition, and graduated at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan (piano) and at the Musik Hochschule in Luzern. He continued his education at the CIEM Lausanne, Mozarteum Salzburg and Essen Hochschule.

After winning the Jeunesse Musicales competition has actively performed in a large variety of concerts, solo recitals, chamber music, orchestra soloist and conductor, bringing him to USA, Turkey, Belarus, Albania, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, India, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, Russia, Portugal, Vatican and Ukraine.

As Conductor and Soloist performed a broaden symphonic repertoire from the classics to romantic, to ‘900, as well as baroque composers, with such orchestras as The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (USA), I Filarmonici di Verona, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Virtuosi Italiani, I Solisti della Scala in Milan, The Bourgàs Philharmonic Orchestra (BG), Sofia Radio Symphony Orchestra (BG), Ruse Opera Orchestra (BG), Symphony Orchestra of Bacau (RO), State Philharmonic Orchestra of Belarus, I Solisti della Svizzera-italiana, Collegium Musicum Luzern, Perpetuum Mobile, Arts Festival Orchestra, Alpen Sinfonie Orchester, Kiev Soloists.

Besides the mentioned music activity Igor Longato has extensively worked in opera and vocal demain, as repetitor and conductor, preparing singers and choirs for opera performances. Extension of his work with voice has been done working closely with top class singers as Luciana Serra (also vocal trainer at the La Scala Academy for singers), Massimo Cavalletti, Bruno Pola, Anna Pirozzi, and with many choirs and in the sacred music repertoire. Under the vocal coaching must be mentioned the important collaboration with the Swiss National Radio Broadcast Choir (Coro RSI), preparing the choir for many concerts (conductor M° Diego Fasolis), and the preparation of the complex work ‘Coro’ by Luciano Berio for the Luzern Festival (Conductor M° Simon Rattle). Most recently Igor Longato has premiered the Donizetti Oper ‘Betly’, at the presence of the Swiss Bundesrat and cured a global revision of music score and text for the Swiss company ‘Premiere Edition’. Igor collaborated also with many theaters in Switzerland, such as the Canton Uri Theater, the Luzerner Theater, and the Opernhaus Zurich.

Between the music activity Igor Longato has also covered administrative-artistic positions as Artistic Director of the Orchestra Cantelli in Milano - regularly performing in Sala Verdi Conservatorio di Milano, Stiftungsrat of the Autunno Musicale di Como, Artistic and executive director of the Orchestra dell’insubria (conductor M° Marc Andreae), and created the biennial ‘Excellence Prize’ for the best music graduated in Switzerland for the Rotary Club Lugano.
