Olivier Darbellay
HornOlivier Darbellay was born in Bern and studied cello in his hometown with Patrick Demenga and Peter Hörr. At the same time, he completed his horn studies with Thomas Müller and David Johnson in Bern and Basel, as well as with Bruno Schneider in Freiburg im Breisgau, graduating with honors.
Since winning the Tribune des Jeunes Interprètes 2000 in Lisbon and the title of “Soliste de l'an 2000” from the Francophone Radio Union, the doors to important stages and festivals in Europe, North America, and Asia have been open to him, where he performs both as a soloist and as a chamber music partner to renowned musicians.
In addition to his role as performer and principal hornist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Basel Chamber Orchestra, in recent years he has taken up intensive teaching activities as a lecturer in horn and chamber music at the universities of Lucerne and Lausanne and regularly conducts master classes in Europe, Russia, and Asia as a guest lecturer.
From 2022, he is the artistic director of the Berner Seefestspiele.
